What is the purpose of man?

What is the purpose of man?

Is it to fulfill our own desires, to glorify and make ourselves known in the world? Is it to be a couch potato, watch tv and be lazy? Is it to be a successful business person, go to collage, have money and be the head of a huge company? Is it to be a celebrity, to be be popular and have everything you want?

What is it?

Ultimately, if you are a Christian, your goal in life should be none of the above. Instead, it should be to glorify, honor and trust the Lord in everything that you do and say and to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth.

In our culture today, this is not seen as the typical "life's goal". We don't see people like "John Piper" or "Paul Washer"'s name in the magazines and newspapers. Instead we see the latest news on "Taylor Swift" or "Brad Pitt" pasted across the front page magazines in the grocery store as we check out.

Our society wants people to look up to those celebrities, to see them as they're role-models. And sadly, most of us, want to be, look, and act like them.

Yet as we look at they're lives, do we see happiness and satisfaction? True happiness and satisfaction??

In Christ, we, as Christians, find full satisfaction, happiness and fulfillment. He is the only one who can satisfy our desires. He fills us with His holy spirit and nutritious' us with the bread of life.

So I ask the question again, what is the purpose of man?"

Answer: "To Glorify God, and enjoy Him forever."

That was one of the questions/answer of the catechism that we used to do when I was younger, and ever since then I've never forgot it.

So lets take a closer look at what this means-

How do we glorify God: In our actions, what we do, everything we say, is it glorifying to Him? Do we think before we speak to make sure it would be pleasing to God? Do we praise God in our achievements? When we go through rough and trying times, do we find comfort and peace in the Lord, or do we turn our back on Him?

How do we enjoy Him: In our day-to-day lives, do we take even just 5 min. to marvel at His beautiful creation? When we read His word, do we saver each sentence and dwell on it? Do we look to Him for our every need!? Is He on our mind all the time, and do we long to talk to Him just as we do our friends?

Do we truly enjoy Him? Do we really glorify Him?

These have been some of my thoughts lately and I thought I should share them with y'all :-)

God Bless your day,

great post, destiny. i really appreciate the thought put into it. awesome.

one note, that i thought kinda interesting.. you said that if you are a Christian it should be none of the above.. when really.. everyone is called to it. it's every man's purpose. but yeah, i'm so on board with how you took at that question.. do we spend even five minutes a day with this marvelous creator of the universe who has revealed himself to us, so that we might fulfill our purpose of glorifying him? oft not. which is why i am so appreciative of this post of yours! :) we need to focus on that. because if we aren't doing that, then everything is worthless.

Katie- haha! you made me laugh just reminding me of that! lol :)

Quin- Yeah I totally see what you mean! Everyone is called to it, but I guess what I mean is specifically Christians should realize that. If that makes sense? but yeah.. I'm totally on the same track as you :) And I'm glad you like the post! :-)
